Thornbird – Wister Medal ’96, Dykes Medal (highest award) ’97
Standards: Pale ecru;
Falls: Greenish tan, deeper at hafts which are overlaid with deep violet lines radiating out from around beard and suffusing into centre;
Beard: Violet, tipped mustard;
Slight sweet fragrance;
Prolific growth and flowering pattern.
A special characteristic is Thornbird’s dark violet ‘horns’ or ‘spoons’ extending an inch or more from the beards. An appealing contrast to the flower’s delicate shadings.
Honourable Mention ’91;
Award of Merit ’93;
Wister Medal ’96;
Dykes Medal ’97
